Hyoscine butylbromide injection 20 mg contains the active substance Hyoscine butylbromide, an anticholinergic medicine. It relieves the pain of stomach and bowel cramps by helping your digestive system to relax. It reduces the peristalsis (wave-like contractions) of smooth muscle resulting in relief from spasms in certain organs in the digestive system. It is usually given in cases where oral administration is unsuitable.
Each ml contains:
Hycoscine Butylbromide 20 mg
Injections
Anticholinergics
Indicated in acute spasm, as in renal or biliary colic, in radiology for differential diagnosis of obstruction and to reduce spasm and pain in pyelography, and in other diagnostic procedures where spasm may be a problem (e.g. gastroduodenal endoscopy).
Hyoscine butyl bromide relieves the pain by acting on the muscle spasm which causes the pain. Its anticholinergic action exerts a smooth-muscle relaxing/spasmolytic effect. It also binds to nicotinic receptors, which induces a ganglion-blocking effect.
It may interact with anti-emetic (domperidone, metoclopramide), bronchodilator (salbutamol), anti-arrhythmic (quinidine, disopyramide), anti-Parkinson (amantadine), anti-cholinergic (tiotropium, ipratropium), anti-psychotic (haloperidol, fluphenazine), opiate analgesic (codeine), anti-depressant (amitriptyline), and antihistamines.
Anticholinergic side effects of hyoscine butylbromide are generally mild: Dry mouth, Constipation, Blurred vision, and Fast heart rate.
