Fluticasone Nasal Spray

Fluticasone Propionate is a steroid which works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies.

Indications

Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Treatment and management of asthma by prophylaxis.

Pharmacology

Fluticasone stimulates glucocorticoid receptors in humans that produce a potent anti-inflammatory response. Fluticasone also works on multiple cells and mediators that are responsible for the inflammatory symptoms of allergic rhinitis (sneezing, runny nose, etc).

Contraindications

Patients who have recently undergone nasal surgery or experienced nasal trauma should avoid using fluticasone nasal spray until healing has occurred to prevent irritation or interference with healing.

Fluticasone, like all medications, can have side effects, although not everyone experiences them. The side effects can vary depending on the form of fluticasone used (e.g., nasal spray) and individual patient factors.
