It is a decongestant medicine made from 5 different ingredients (including natural oils) which work by unblocking the nose. This medicine is considered especially useful in treating a stuffy nose caused by a cold or other related conditions. Camphor is produced from the camphor tree and is prized for its aroma. It has been widely used to help relieve irritation and itching, and it has been suggested that it may work by affecting the nerve endings.

Chlorothymol is derived from thymol and it is said to be effective at combating germs. Eucalyptol is naturally produced and contains eucalyptus essential oil. There is widespread belief that it can affect the secretion of mucus in the airways. Some studies have suggested that it may benefit the treatment of rhinosinusitis while also providing relief from headaches and nasal obstruction. Terpineol is a type of isomeric alcohol which occurs in many essential oils.

The final ingredient (menthol) is usually produced from peppermint or other related plant oils. It can function as a local anaesthetic, and is frequently used to relieve congestion of the upper airways and dyspnoea. The strong smell helps to make the brain believe that the nose is no longer blocked, allowing patients to breathe easier. When used as directed, the aromatic oils contained in this medicine helps to provide relief from congestion caused by colds, which can make it easier for patients to sleep.

Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) is a terpene (organic compound) extracted from the wood of camphor trees and processed by steam distillation. It can be used topically to relieve pain, irritation, and itching. Camphor is also used to relieve chest congestion and inflammatory conditions. Camphor vapor rub was most effective in relieving night cough, congestion, and sleep difficulty in children with upper respiratory tract infections.

Chlorothymol is derived from thymol and is used for or bronchitis, whooping cough, sore throat, colic, arthritis, upset stomach, stomach pain (gastritis), diarrhea, bedwetting, a movement disorder in children (dyspraxia), intestinal gas (flatulence), parasitic worm infections, and skin disorders. It is also used to increase urine flow (as a diuretic), to disinfect the urine, and as an appetite stimulant.

Eucalyptol: Oil from the eucalyptus plant shows promise as an alternative remedy for sinusitis and congestion. The oil can relieve the symptoms of colds and coughs, including sinus congestion and stuffiness. Eucalyptus oil contains a compound called cineole which is safe and effective treatment for sinus issues.

Menthol is widely used as a treatment for rhinitis that is associated with acute upper respiratory tract infection and allergy. Menthol as a plant extract has been used in traditional medicine in Asia for the treatment of respiratory diseases for hundreds of years. Menthol receptor on the sensory nerves that modulate the cool sensation, menthol has graduated from the realms of herbal medicine into the field of molecular pharmacology. Menthol has been shown to reduce dyspnea in many respiratory conditions. Menthol primarily activates the cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin. Menthol, after topical application, causes a feeling of coolness due to stimulation of receptors by inhibiting Ca++ currents of neuronal membranes. It may also yield analgesic properties via kappa-opioid receptor agonism.

Terpineol is a type of isomeric alcohol which occurs in many essential oils. Inhaling the vapours of turpentine oil can reduce thick secretions due to bronchial diseases.
